Abstract: Multilocus sequence typing(MLST) technique is a rapidly developing analytical method of molecular biology with high resolution, which is based directly on nucleotide sequence. By analyzing the 6 to 7 housekeeping genes about 470 bp, the diversity of infectious strains is compared, and different strains have a unique index sequence type. MLST technique can track and investigate pathogenic microbes distributing condition globally by internet. Because of its wide and potential application values, MLST has been applied in identifying microbes related to infectious diseases. In this paper, the authors gave an outlook of the theory of MLST and its application in typing and identifying some pathogenic microbes.

Key words: multilocus sequence typing, housekeeping gene, typing identification, infectious diseases
