Abstract: Chitosan is a unique degradable polymer of biological activity. The recent study found that chitosan had a variety of physiological effects, in particular, having a good antibacterial activity. This article summarized its effects on the growth of bacteria, the adhesion of bacteria and the plaque pH value, also the affecting factors of its antibacterial activity.

Key words: chitosan, cariogenic bacteria, adhesion of bacteria, plaque
