Abstract: With the development in non- viral gene delivery systems, chitosan- DNA complex is being widely applied in prophylaxis and treatment of various diseases. The transfection efficiency mediated by chitosan has much to do with the effect, and the related influential factors are complicated and interacted. Recent research advances on the influence of the preparing parameters, the nature of the chitosan- DNA complex as well as the transfection condition on the transfection efficiency will be summarized in this review.
