Abstract: Scleraxis is one of transcription factors associated with development and differentiation in mesoderm. Since it was first isolated in 1995, the studies of Scleraxis were focused on embryogenesis. Considering the origin of periodontium is mesoderm, the effects of Scleraxis on periodontal ligament are interesting. And it is thought that Scleraxis is one of factors associated with differentiation of periodontal ligament cells. Therefore, this review will show contemporary studies in embryology and cytology of Scleraxis.
