Abstract:

With the popularization of implant restoration technology, the treatment of complications is increasingly becoming a concern of clinicians. Previous studies mainly involved implant biological and mechanical complications. However, approximal contact loss is also a common complication of implant fixed restoration, which is the main cause of food impaction and affects chewing function, thereby significantly decreasing the patient’s denture comfort. Many studies have reported high approximal contact loss incidence, and the problem of food impaction caused by approximal contact loss of implant restoration has become a new topic receiving considerable research attention. This article reviews the causes, clinical features, and countermeasures of approximal contact loss after implant fixation.

Key words: approximal contact loss, food impaction, dental implant
