Molecular regulation mechanism of Nel-like type 1 molecule to the osteoblast diff

Abstract: Nel-like type 1 molecule(Nell-1) is one of the novel growth factors with important biological function on the differentiation and apoptosis of osteoblasts. This review emphasized on the gene expression cascades between nell-1 and transforming growth factor or fibroblast growth factor, the signal regulation mechanisms and associated molecular signal pathways of nell-1 regulating the differentiation of osteoblasts. The effect of Nell-1 regulating the extracellular matrix(ECM) proteins that are necessary in osteogenesis and chondrogenesis has also been discussed.
