Abstract: Smile esthetics has been popular in the domestic and overseas orthodontic academia for a long time. The studies of smile esthetics have developed from static esthetics to dynamic esthetics. Buccal corridor, as an important part of smile esthetics, has been realized by more and more orthodontists and even laypeople. Only on the basis of full understanding about the professional knowledge of buccal corridor esthetics and mastering the orthodontic methods to change the size of buccal corridor, orthodontists can help patients get more beautiful smile. Thus, we would make a review on the definition and research methods of buccal corridor, the influencing factors on the size and esthetic effect of buccal corridor, hoping to provide references of orthodontists’ clinical decision.

Key words: buccal corridor, esthetics, smile esthetics, dynamic esthetics, orthodontics
